General information

The Advanced certificate in life coaching and counselling in the secondary school consists of 120 credits on NQF Level 7 and the mode of learning is online. The mode of assessment is continuous assessment. This means that assessments will cover the curriculum and provide a combined weight of 100%, which will constitute the final mark for each module. There is no summative assessment, in other words no examination, in continuous assessment. Practical training will form part of the practical modules. Work Integrated Learning (WIL), will be included in the assessments.

The duration of the qualification is one year.

The Advanced Certificate consists of the following modules:

  • Aligning the role of the school counsellor with relevant support professions
  • A theoretical approach to optimal functioning
  • Strategies to promote optimal wellbeing in secondary school learners
  • Study methods and entrepreneurship in secondary school
  • Talent identification and career guidance in the secondary school
  • Dealing with violence, bullying and abuse in the secondary school
  • Mental wellbeing in secondary school learners

Your study material for each module consists of:

  • a studyguide which will represent your learning material for the module
  • a tutorial letter with general information, as well as your assignments and due dates
